Giving Food Pantry in Kent

Making a difference in Kent, Washington by giving food to our staff throughout the year.

Comprehensive Logistics’ Human Resources Manager Samantha Walsh shares how the Food Pantry was established out of need and is sustained throughout the year.

In May of 2021, I had an employee come into my office to discuss his pay. He was inquiring about a possible raise. He began to cry telling me that he could not afford food for his family and that his youngest son was crying for milk the night before, but this employee could not afford to get any. Being a parent myself, I knew how much he was hurting not being able to provide for the basic needs of his family.

I told him to come back and see me at the end of the day. I had a meeting with my amazing leadership team here in Kent and told them of the employee’s issues and needs. Without hesitation, they all agreed that I would go shopping and get this employee what he needed to take care of his family. When the employee came back to see me at the end of the day, he had a carload of food waiting for him.

Kent, Washington Food Pantry was established by the CLI Leadership Team to anonymously support employees in need.

Seeing the appreciation and relief on the face of this employee gave us the idea to start a food pantry for all our employees who are struggling to feed their families. We use our own money to fund the pantry.

The Leadership team came together and stocked almost an entire room with food, hygiene items, socks, and diapers. It was amazing to see the hearts of this leadership team that I am so proud to be a part of. They even got their spouses involved. One wife went outside of CLI and got donations of food for the pantry.

We made food baskets for both Thanksgiving and Christmas (as well as gifts) for ANY employee who was struggling to make the holidays good for their families.

The response from our employees has been so positive. Most have been surprised that their employer has concerns for their life outside of CLI. They are so appreciative.

As a team, we all believe that none of our employees should stress over feeding their families.

This year, we are adding boxes with specific recipes and all the food the employee will need to make that recipe. Each member of the Leadership Team is putting together 1-2 different boxes. That is at least 10 boxes of complete meals!

We are honored and blessed to be able to help our employees.
