History of Comprehensive Logistics

The history of a company is personal, the link between a proud past and a dynamic present.

The narrative of CLI embraces the nostalgia of the company’s humble beginnings in 1903—24-year-old J.V. McNicholas hauled travelers’ belongings in a horse-drawn wagon from railroad stations in his hometown of Youngstown, Ohio—and traces an arc that frames industry-shaping milestones and foretells the potential for a promising future.

It’s much more than disparate dates and events plotted on a timeline. It’s an American success story.

CLI History Timeline

Comprehensive Logistics was incorporated in 1995 as an independent entity to focus on logistics outsourcing. We quickly became synonymous with excellence in automotive logistics when it signed the company’s first value-added sub-assembly contract in 2010 with a major U.S. automotive OEM.

2010 also signaled a seminal moment for how CLI managed inventory when the company introduced its proprietary STREME™ warehouse management system (WMS). STREME has become a game-changing supply chain intelligence technology, with full track-and-trace capability. From inbound receipt to just-in-time final delivery, customers have complete Web-based visibility to item-level details for any commodity.

In 2014 Comprehensive Logistics implemented a customer diversification and expansion strategy with automotive and select industrial OEMs.

Over the years, millions of process cycles have refined CLI’s processes and capabilities, resulting in a leaner and more resilient company.

Today, we deliver innovative lean solutions to OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers. Our proven processes, combined with leading-edge technology and a commitment to continuous improvement, give customers a story that never gets old—world-class results.
