Promise Me is a fictional memoir that examines complex emotions through the eyes of a child.“I carried this story with me for more than 30 years,” Martin says. “Writing this book was an emotional release for me.” Nearly every night for five years, Martin wrote her story while music played in the background. She has always been interested in the arts and grew up with a natural ability to express herself creatively.Martin’s appreciation for the arts started early in her childhood. Her mother Pecola first introduced her to gospel music, and today, her brother Marvin is a successful R&B musician. Martin graduated from East High School in Youngstown and raised three of her own children—Andraé, Audra and Ashley.Currently, she works at CLI’s logistics optimization center in Austintown, Ohio, where she supports the value-added assembly of customized modules that are delivered to assembly lines on a just-in-time basis.
